Preservation Resource Center

Located in the historic Warehouse District of New Orleans, the Preservation Resource Center (PRC) has been preserving, restoring, and revitalizing New Orleans’ historic architecture and neighborhoods since 1974.  Since our founding, the PRC has grown into the leading voice protecting our city’s rich heritage.

Heritage Education programs began at the PRC in 2002 and has since given thousands of local students a greater appreciation of their city, neighborhoods, and houses.  Drawing upon a wide range of resources, we now offer a diverse range of programming and field trips for grades K-12 that can accommodate the needs of any school or teacher.

The Heritage Education program is an initiative of the Preservation Resource Center’s Education & Outreach Department.

As our flagship program, My City, My Home offers a comprehensive, inter-disciplinary set of lessons designed to give the students the tools that will enable them to become active participants in neighborhood planning, community development, and our city’s broader civic life.

The PRC also offers two stand-alone lessons on topics that are all too often neglected in our city’s classrooms: the development of the architecture and neighborhoods of New Orleans. Architecture 101 is an interactive look into the development of the unique and distinct architectural types and styles that can be found across New Orleans.

In addition to being a field trip destination in and of itself, the PRC can also lead your class on a guided field trip of different neighborhoods, including visits to the French Quarter, Holy Cross in the Lower 9th, and the ReUse District, or design a custom trip for your class.

Designed for grades K-3, The Littlest House uses Virginia Lee Burton’s classic children’s story of a lonely old house that is nearly overwhelmed by neglect and urbanization.
