The Rap Game

Kerry “Mr. G” Gibson has taught freestyle rapping for Young Audiences for the last six years. He leads the live hip-hop group Jealous Monk. He was nominated “Best Rapper” in OffBeat, behind Juvenile and Lil Wayne. He has performed the Rap Game for kids and adults in dozens of settings from the classroom to the New Orleans Museum of Art.


Michael Patrick Welch has taught “music writing” for Young Audiences and Community Works since Hurricane Katrina. He has helped students in over a dozen schools write and recorded over 150 original rap songs. In 2009 he helped release the official album YA! Young Audiences Raps! He has also helped students get their music reviews published in Gambit Weekly, VICE, OffBeat and AntiGravity magazines. MPW has worked with Mr. G for a long, long time.
