GPOA Foundation “STEM Squad” Summer Initiative for Girls
Published: March 10, 2017
Young Audiences of Louisiana is excited to announce the GPOA Foundation’s support of “STEM Squad,” our new summer science, technology, engineering and math initiative. Designed specifically for girls in grades fifth through eighth, our pilot initiative will offer 4-weeks of in-depth STEM exploration for approximately 120 underserved students in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes. Conducted by a woman-led team of STEM educators and teaching artists, the arts-integrated curriculum will expose students to projects, careers, and key topics in robotics, architecture, design, engineering, and biology. Guest speakers and field trips will provide additional opportunities for participants to gain an understanding of the unique barriers faced by women in STEM and how these obstacles can be overcome.
