Architecture 101: The Neighborhoods of New Orleans

The PRC also offers two stand-alone lessons on topics that are all too often neglected in our city’s classrooms: the development of the architecture and neighborhoods of New Orleans. Architecture 101 is an interactive look into the development of the unique and distinct architectural types and styles that can be found across New Orleans.

The Neighborhoods of New Orleans takes the students back in time for a trip that covers the growth of our city from its founding in 1718 to modern times. Additionally, PRC’s experienced staff can work with teachers to develop a customized lessons to fit with any grade or curriculum.

About Preservation Resource Center

Located in the historic Warehouse District of New Orleans, the Preservation Resource Center (PRC) has been preserving, restoring, and revitalizing New Orleans’ historic architecture and neighborhoods since 1974.  Since our founding, the PRC has grown into the leading voice protecting our city’s rich heritage.

Heritage Education programs began at the PRC in 2002 and has since given thousands of local students a greater appreciation of their city, neighborhoods, and houses. Drawing upon a wide range of resources, we now offer a diverse range of programming and field trips for grades K-12 that can accommodate the needs of any school or teacher.

The Heritage Education program is an initiative of the Preservation Resource Center’s Education & Outreach Department.
