YALA ArtsPlay!™ When the Saints Go Marching In Pop-Up at Community Book Center on Bayou Road

  • Community Book Center 2523 Bayou Road New Orleans, LA, 70119 United States (map)

Let’s go marching in a second line band or dancing in a second line parade! One-to-one number correspondence, or understanding that the word “one” is directly connected to one step or one march, is an important foundation in math. What better way to explore it than with marching in a band or “second lining”? Sing and count along as we play in everyone’s anticipated Sunday ritual, the second line.

Join us on Wednesday, October 2 at 10:30 AM at the Community Book Center on Bayou Road for this fourth in the pop up series, “Take Me Down to the Second Line”.

“Take Me Down to the Second Line” is designed for ages three to four years old, though younger and older children will also enjoy the workshop.

This series was developed by Young Audiences of Louisiana / Louisiana Wolf Trap Teaching Artist Ja’nese Brooks-Galathe in partnership with the New Orleans African American Museum. It is based on the traditional indigenous culture of New Orleans Second Line and Black Masking Indians.

The workshops are FREE and presented by The Helis Foundation, and you must register for each workshop to participate.
