Enhance your school culture and promote student learning by tapping into YALA’s curricular arts integration school services.
Our programs will change the way you approach your work.
How do we know our arts-integrated residencies work? Experience.
YALA has been bringing art into Louisiana schools since 1957 and into classrooms since 1973. Most recently we developed the Comprehensive Arts Integration School Model and facilitated our Arts-Integrated Professional Development (AIPD) Program, through partnerships between Jefferson Parish Public Schools, Young Audiences of Louisiana, and Young Audiences National, funded by the US Department of Education. Built upon the Young Audiences National’s A4L model, our curricular arts integration is designed to provide sustained, intensive professional development in arts integration, increase teacher content knowledge in the arts, while engaging students and promoting learning.

Arts Integration Programs for Schools
Add to your collective educator toolbox by using arts integration practices to address your educators needs, from classroom management to arts-integrated lesson planning.
AIPD workshops provide practical tools to create joyful learning experiences for every student and can strengthen the professional learning community within a school or an entire school district. Through AIPD workshops, educators gain new assessment tools and explore innovative methods of reaching students. Teachers will strengthen teaching skills, learn new ways to apply the arts to classroom lessons and explore new approaches to effectively engaging students.

“It makes challenging material fun for the children. Young Audiences incorporates multiple art forms and cross curricular connections to give us practical information for our classrooms.”
Built upon the Arts for Learning model, YALA AIR is designed to provide hands-on professional development in arts integration while engaging students in dynamic and creative approaches to learning.
YALA’s professional teaching artists collaborate with classroom teachers to create innovative curricula which deepen understanding and make meaningful connections to core academic curriculum for all types of learners. Our six-day units are designed to enhance the student learning experience by using visual art, music, dance or theatre elements to clarify key educational standards. On the last day of the unit, students share what they have learned with their peers. Presentations are graded based on our specialized YALA AIR Rubric, assessing mastery of connecting content and arts content.
Duration: Available in 6-day Units

Learn differentiated arts integration strategies to help exceptional students excel in the classroom.
YALA AIR for Exceptional Students provides co-taught arts-integration residences and professional development for educators of differently-abled students in the form of institutes and co-taught residencies. The arts and arts-integrated education are proven effective in addressing the unique educational needs of SPED and English Language Learner students, providing them with opportunities to celebrate differences and excel in the classroom through activities that tap into a wide variety of skill sets and learning styles. Research indicates that arts rich educational experiences can lead to increased academic, social, and functional skill development and knowledge in students that learn differently.

Comprehensive Arts-Integrated School Model (CAISM) expands upon the concept of YALA’s AI Residencies by providing the arts integration program school-wide at six JPPSS elementary schools. CAISM provides tools necessary to transform a traditional elementary school into an arts-integrated one. Our toolkit is adaptable on local, regional, and national levels, and designed to improve student academic outcomes in ELA, math, and the arts. To accomplish these goals, CAISM provides professional development to school leaders, classroom teachers and teaching artists.
